100 Photos from the Super Bowl LIV | Kansas City, Missouri

I’ve never been a football fan. My only memory of football growing up was in 2000 when the Rams went to the Super Bowl. My Dad watched it with his best friend, and I spent the entire game drawing a poster size Kurt Warner. Other than that, we were and still are a baseball family. So when I was hired to shoot the Super Bowl watch party at Power & Light, I expected it to be fun and I was excited for everyone who loves football, but I had low expectations for where it would fall on my list of favorite things I’ve had the opportunity to shoot.

In ten years of professionally photographing events, the Super Bowl has rushed to the top of my list, with no close seconds. The energy was absolutely incredible, and the intensity of the game could not have been a better set up for some of the most emotional moments I have ever photographed. For the first time in years, there was not a phone in sight. Even the security guards had all eyes on the game. The entire crowd was silent as it started to become clear to everyone that we might lose this game. You saw dreams falling apart. Tears were shed. Hands covered mouths in despair. Late 20s men who had grown up watching football with their dads and dreaming of the day Kansas City made it back to the Super Bowl were abso.lutely.losing.it. We got this far! We can’t lose! We got this far! Suddenly I also cared, and it was weird.
Everyone was hanging on every second, hoping with all hope that something would save us.

Mahomes made a one-yard throw to Kelce that gave us the fighting chance we needed. Tears were wiped away. We can do this. We can freaking do this!
And we did.
